Asbestos discovery includes Miami Science Museum

The discovery of asbestos in a mechanical room has forced the temporary shutdown of the Miami Science Museum.  Museum announced shutdown officials last week after asbestos workers in a room near the site of Planetarium found.  The Museum will be closed for one week during local environmental investigators a survey of the rest of the site perform.  A museum spokesman said that you did not expect to find the dangerous material elsewhere in the Museum, but officials decided to close the doors as a precaution.

The closure has occurred during the Thanksgiving weekend, forced the Museum several events, including some children's birthday party cancel.  Visitors that the Museum of the affected appointments had tickets Tickets for future dates.  Gillian Thomas, Director of the Museum said he said press the closure was an instance of the Museum "being super careful."  She also said that museum officials have no reason to believe that investigators would find asbestos at other locations.

Site Planetarium, built in 1966, is one of the oldest buildings in the Museum.  In the 1960s, asbestos uses many construction projects as insulation and creative materials.  The Museum was renovated in 1971 but asbestos removal was not part of the project at this time.  Another round of renovations came in 1991, by which some asbestos detection and removal, but the Planetarium was not part of this effort.

An interview with a former Planetarium employees in the Miami New Times newspaper said that employees of the presence of asbestos had known weeks before the announcement.  Vasko Jontschev, a Bulgarian immigrant to the Planetarium since 1976 had worked, had a heart attack, retire to in 2008.  Mr Jontschev told the newspaper that he suffers from bronchitis, he to asbestos in the Museum attributes.

After Mr Jontschev interview took samples of a gray dust he found along the walls of the electric room, where he worked.  He sent the dust samples to an independent lab for testing.  The tests showed that the dust called Amosite contain appreciable percentage of a form of asbestos.

Mr Jontschev said that the electric room on the primary air conditioning unit connected, the Planetarium, the building served, could have carried out dangerous dust of whole building.  He also mentioned that he and his staff in the carcinogenic dust breathed and worked often in the electric room without masks.

Patrick Wong, Director of Miami Dade County air quality management Division, said that Mr. of Jontschev's actions could have one was even grater threat to his health.  Mr. Wong said that "the Act which make release could a piece (asbestos) without due process fibres".

Asbestos found in New Zealand day care center fire

A fire in a day-care facility in new Lynn, New Zealand, revealed asbestos ceiling tiles and roofing materials.  Witnesses reported flames see nearly twenty feet in the night sky at the planet kids daycare facility to climb.  Residents expressed concerns about the asbestos-laced smoke from the fire that hovered over the neighborhood.  Investigators believe the fire it was arson and work looking after the perpetrators that fire to set.

Firefighters and arson specialists found pieces of loose asbestos amidst the rubble.  All employees who was examination of the site get precautions to avoid exposure to the hazardous substance.  Local public health officials warned people about come with the toxic dust into contact.  Dr. Cathy peak wood, chief medical officer of the city the prevailing winds in the area have made the smoke in less populated areas, should be told reporters.

Asbestos scare closes Madison Square Garden

Officials in New York's iconic Madison Square Garden decided the city's landmark Tuesday after suspicious, dusty dirt into the arena fell to close.


The fear was raised sometime Monday night after the Rangers hockey game, if overnight of maintenance crews asbestos-related materials in the attic above the upper limit were cleaning and fell some dirt in the arena. The Garden brought two environmental security-consulting company, to test the rubble for asbestos fibres.


The garden was confirmed reopened Wednesday evening after air of quality tests your was no asbestos in the arena.


Exposure to asbestos has mesothelioma, a deadly cancer of the lining of the lung attached. Before the 1970s asbestos was widely used in building materials, and is still in many older buildings. Fortunately that is only a threat to people, asbestos in construction materials after becoming it through the air and was disturbed.

Asbestos covered electric map to the Gettysburg Foundation donated

The electric map at Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania has in store for two years were during his future was discussed. Recently it was donated the Gettysburg Foundation, a decision that sit well with some members of the family of card of the creator.


The 12 sound card, which features illuminated shows highlighting the development of troops during the battle of Gettysburg was a popular attraction at the Park until 2008 but presents some challenges to their owners. Asbestos in Kansas State discovered prisons

After review by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) about the last asbestos handling, State prison officials in Topeka, Kansas study a $170,000 asbestos to assess contamination in the State prison facilities. Lansing Winfield prisons were and heavily contaminated with asbestos-containing materials, and adjustment work on pipe wrapping and ceiling tiles found.
